In November 2014 I'm going to Nepal with Save the Children Australia to help the Nawalparasi community. I'll be spending my 22nd birthday trekking the Himalayas surrounded by people I've never met (but know I will adore), immersed in a culture that's been relatively untouched for generations... What an incredible birthday I'll have .

Through Save The Children's Trek Nepal, I will be helping first hand with their quality education project.This project aims to improve the Shree Udaya Lower Secondary School’s physical infrastructure, encourage out of school children to enroll in school, improve the children’s retention rate, adopt child centered teaching and learning, train all of the teachers, and educate the community about children’s rights issues. This will ensure that Udaya Lower Secondary School becomes one of the model schools in the district. For all of this to happen, I need to raise $4,000. This money is going directly to the project; I'm responsible for all of my own travel costs and expenses.

Currently, the Udaya Lower Secondary School has very poor infrastructure, including a run-down building with unsafe roofing and broken windows. There’s also a lack of clean drinking water, inadequate toilets, uncomfortable furniture and insufficient teaching resources. The construction of the school block will contribute in creating a more accommodating learning environment for the children and will be measured by quality learning environment tools. The focus of the project will be in enhancing the quality of basic education with the outcome of improving the learning achievements of the students.
